Launched by Rosi and Brian Amador (who in 1984 co-founded Flor de Cana; the band broke up ten years later), Sol y Canto use dance rhythms from various countries (Cuban son, Spanish flamenco, Colombian cumbia, Puerto Rican bomba). The band is truly multicultural, including members from Venezuela, Chile, Puerto Rico, Panama and the United States. Rosi (vocals) and Brian (guitars, vocals) are joined by Edilio Bermudez (bass, vocals), Eugenio Huanca (quena, zamponas, vocals), Renato Thoms (congas, bongo, small percussion, vocals) and Jon Weeks (saxes, flute) on their album for Rounder, 1994's Sancocho. Sendero del Sol appeared two years later, and in 1999 the group returned with En Todo Momento. ~ John Bush
