Artist Biography
Few instruments can match the beauty of the voice of Art Garfunkel, a gift he first began to hone singing in his family’s synagogue while growing up in Queens, NY. Born in 1941, the teenaged Garfunkel started performing with his school pal Paul Simon in the late ’50s before becoming folk-pop superstars as Simon & Garfunkel in the ‘60s. The duo split in 1970 after reaching an artistic peak with Bridge Over Troubled Water and the accompanying, Garfunkel-sung single. Unbowed, he continued to put his angelic tenor to remarkable use on such solo hits as 1974’s “Second Avenue” and his 1975 take on the jazz standard “I Only Have Eyes for You.” In between his periodic reunions with his partner, Garfunkel soared on a series of solo recordings comprised of his thoughtful originals as well as his unique and often poignant takes on the classics of jazz, folk, Broadway, and pop.
