In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
I grew up in Germanton, NC. Every Fall we have “Chicken Stews.” We cook stew all day in a cauldron, & folks share stories & music. I remember an old-timer playing “Country Blues” on the banjo—it hooked me instantly. I still love Doc Watson's version. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Bob Dylan, Blood On the Tracks
Gillian Welch, Time (The Revelator)
The Clash, London Calling
All of my favorite records build little worlds for the listener to get lost in. They all tend to blur genre until they’ve created their own sound. The trailblazers are who I’m drawn to. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song.
“Sweet Critters (feat. John Paul White)”
I knew it was special when I finished it. It’s a beautiful love story in a world that needs as much of that as possible. If you’re someone who likes to feel things, then this one is for you. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
There’re so many big fancy moments I could mention but nothing tops when someone tells me that a song I wrote got them through a hard time. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
I want to keep growing as an artist, staying open to all possibilities. I’d also like to headline The Ryman someday.
