About Nicky Romero
Artist Biography
With his viral hits, major collaborations, and pop crossovers, Dutch DJ and producer Nicky Romero is a quintessential figure of the EDM movement.
• Before he was a DJ, Romero worked as a barback in a nightclub in the Dutch village of Elst. He found it inspiring to simply be so close to the DJ booth.
• He released his first electro-house tracks in the late 2000s and broke through with the 2011 single “Toulouse.” The song’s bright, big room synths and “Pryda snare” sound made him a star.
• In 2011, Romero and Avicii teamed up in hopes of marrying the signature Swedish and Dutch sounds. The resulting song, 2012’s “I Could Be the One,” charted across the globe and topped Billboard’s Dance Club Songs tally.
• His label Protocol Recordings has released records by Don Diablo, Blasterjaxx, R3hab, and others.
• Romero makes a cameo as himself in the 2015 Zac Efron movie We Are Your Friends.
