Artist Biography
UK synth-pop duo La Roux quickly found success with hit singles and a Grammy-winning self-titled debut album in 2009.
• Band members Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid met through a mutual friend. They first began collaborating on folk-influenced acoustic music under the name Automaton before shifting to electronic music and adopting the name La Roux.
• La Roux’s second single, 2009’s “In for the Kill,” was the duo’s breakthrough, reaching No. 2 on the UK singles chart. The follow-up, “Bulletproof,” hit No. 1 in the UK and No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
• Because of increasing friction with Jackson, Langmaid left the group in 2012. Jackson carried on alone, releasing the New Wave–influenced Trouble in Paradise in 2014. The album hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart No. 6 in the UK.
• Jackson’s third album as La Roux, Supervision, arrived in 2020 and made the Top 20 on the UK albums chart.
