About Joel Paterson
A key figure on the Chicago roots scene, guitarist/vocalist Joel Paterson is known for his vintage-inspired jazz, blues, country, and swing. Emerging in the late '90s, he grabbed attention with bands like Devil in a Woodpile and Jimmy Sutton and the Four Charms. As a solo artist, he has released albums of traditional blues covers including 2002's Down at the Depot, 2005's Go Lightnin', and 2008's A Chicago Session. He has also contributed to albums by JD McPherson, Pokey LaFarge, and the Cactus Blossoms. His 2018 holiday album Hi-Fi Christmas Guitar and Let It Be Guitar! Joel Paterson Plays the Beatles expanded his audience. In 2023, he released Let It Be Acoustic Guitar! and his first album of original fingerpicked tunes, Wheelhouse Rag, before producing and playing on singer/guitarist Annie Dolan's debut 2024 album Atta Boy Girl.
