Artist Biography
Adrian Younge synthesizes numerous styles across the spectrum of Black music with a crate-digger's perspective. He emerged with the score for the blaxploitation homage Black Dynamite (2009). Younge was composer and producer, and performed most of the music. His grip tightened with conceptual solo projects ranging from the psychedelic soul of Something About April (2011) to the synthesizer experimentation of The Electronique Void (2016). Concurrent sessions yielded full-lengths headlined by major influences such as the Delfonics and Ghostface Killah. Another inspiration, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, became a constant collaborator. The two have worked together on projects including The Midnight Hour (2018) and Jazz Is Dead (2018-2023). The latter, a fertile series of collaborative works, showcased new rercordings by forbearers Roy Ayers, Marcos Valle, Jean Carn, Tony Allen, among others.
