Fishbone came up in L.A. in the mid-'80s, purveying a hybrid of ska, funk, rock, and metal, all filtered through a zany sense of humor. Their pan-stylistic sound connected with audiences right off the bat, and they developed a hardcore following for both their recordings and their energetic live performances. In the early '90s, guitarist Kendall Jones got involved in some unusual circumstances involving what some say was a religious cult, and the band was thrown somewhat askew. Subsequently, a revamped version of the group started working under the unwieldy moniker Fishbone's Familyhood Nexperience.
