About Citizen Cope
Born Clarence Greenwood, Citizen Cope had been the live keyboardist and DJ for the band Basehead before striking out on his own.
∙ Santana included Greenwood’s song “Sideways” on the 2002 album Shaman, and Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Tyler James and Cory Tyler have also recorded covers.
∙ Citizen Cope’s recording of “Sideways” was included on his breakthrough album, The Clarence Greenwood Recordings, released in 2004.
∙ In 2010, he formed his own label, RainWater Recordings, and issued The Rainwater LP as its first release.
∙ The title of his 2018 album Heroin and Helicopters came from words of warning Carlos Santana had shared: “They don’t work well with musicians.”
∙ He released The Pull of Niagara Falls in 2021, and the EP The Victory March in 2023.
