About Jazzanova
Artist Biography
Formed in 1995 by a group of six DJs and producers in Berlin, Jazzanova have always drawn inspiration from the musical tradition they proudly acknowledge in their name. At the same time, this eclectic collective keep pushing it forward, creating connections between jazz’s past and many possible futures in tracks that combine vintage sounds and warm grooves with sleek yet funky elements of downtempo, chillout, trip-hop, and house. That blend made them one of the flagship acts of the genre known as nu-jazz. Just as remarkable is Jazzanova’s ability to integrate their programming and mixing skills with the contributions of live musicians and guest rappers and singers on albums such as 2002’s In Between and 2008’s Of All the Things. A spirited collaboration with Detroit vocalist Paul Randolph and players from Jazzanova’s touring band, 2012’s Funkhaus Studio Sessions, demonstrated just how potent their signature fusion could be.
