Avery Sunshine is a singer, pianist, and composer whose progressive R&B style joins neo-soul, gospel, jazz, and contemporary R&B in an uplifting approach, with a voice reminiscent of Minnie Riperton's. After working on Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns and Dreamgirls, she performed at the 2008 Democratic National Convention and at President Barack Obama's inauguration the following year. In 2010, she played a principal role in Douglas Tappin's musical I Dream and released her eponymous debut album. Sunshine issued Live at Union Chapel in 2012, then signed to Shanachie for 2014's The Sun Room, which landed on Billboard's R&B and Hot 200 charts. She released the widely acclaimed Twenty Sixty Four in 2017, and returned with Four Songs & a Bootleg in 2022. Two years later, Sunshine issued So Glad to Know You, which won the Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album.
