About 4 Non Blondes
Alternative rock band 4 Non Blondes chose their name as a rejection of stereotypical California superficiality.
∙ Singer Linda Perry asked the group’s record label to leave “What’s Up?” off Bigger, Better, Faster, More!, fearing that the song would upstage the rest of their debut album.
∙ The single “What’s Up?” reached the Top 20 in the US, while also topping charts in Germany, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland.
∙ Post-4 Non Blondes, Perry’s contributions to P!nk’s album M!ssundaztood led to a new career as a songwriter and producer for such artists as Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, and Alicia Keys.
∙ Cofounder/guitarist Shaunna Hall went on to tour with George Clinton & The P-Funk All Stars, officially becoming the first female guitarist in the group’s history.
∙ In 2002, “What’s Up?” was included on VH1’s list of 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders.
∙ Linda Perry was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame In 2015.
