About The New Deal
The members of electronica trio the New Deal emerged from Canada’s thriving jazz scene. Bassist Dan Kurtz, drummer Darren Shearer, and keys player Jamie Shields met one night at an impromptu jam in Toronto, and the results of their session were so pleasing that they released them as THIS IS LIVE (1999). The New Deal’s mix of house rhythms, synths, and burbling bass was a hit with dance-friendly audiences and led to a rigorous touring schedule and a series of bootlegs. The band released a few EPs on their own Sound and Light Records, and GONE GONE GONE appeared in 2003.
