About Ray Lyell
Artist Biography
Singer and guitarist Ray Lyell grew up in St. Catharines on a musical diet consisting of tunes by many of the greats of rock & roll. By the time he was 13, Lyell was already writing his own rock songs. His first band was formed in the early '80s with friend and guitarist Dave Kristian. A few years later and in need of more members, Lyell worked out a beneficial deal with another group, Ta-She. Members from Ta-She, like keyboardist Vince Rinaldo, drummer James Anthony, and singer Paula Tessaro, stepped in as the backing band for Lyell when he had live gigs, and in return he performed with their group as lead singer when needed. Soon the backing band became known as Storm. Other members were drummer Tim Tyler, bassist Luc Grenier, and keyboardist George Manz.
By 1989, Lyell and his band had a recording contract with Spy Records. That same year, the debut single "Another Man's Gun" and its matching music video were released, along with the Juno Award-nominated album, Ray Lyell & the Storm. Between 1990 and 1995, two more albums followed, Desert Winds and Working Man. There were also a few more singles, including "Bitter Creek," "Gypsy Wind," "Don't Let Go," and "Cruel Life." When the third album failed to bring much success, Lyell moved on to other agendas. ~ Charlotte Dillon
