Artist Biography
Scottish group The Proclaimers built a worldwide following with versatile, rootsy music drawn from classic rock, American country, and British punk.
∙ The band was formed in 1983 by identical twins Craig and Charlie Reid, and their debut album, 1987’s This Is the Story, went Gold in the UK.
∙ “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”—an international hit in 1988, 1993, and 2007—rose to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 after being featured in the 1993 film Benny & Joon.
∙ Featured on the soundtrack for the 1990 Australian drama The Crossing, their cover of Roger Miller’s “King of the Road” was a Top 10 single in the UK and Ireland.
∙ “I’m On My Way” was included on the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for 2001’s blockbuster animated film Shrek.
∙ Named after their sophomore album, the 2007 play Sunshine On Leith won a UK Theatre Award for Best Musical and was made into a film in 2013.
