Artist Biography
Conductor Courtney Lewis is the music director of the Jacksonville Symphony in Florida. He has been active mostly in the U.S. Lewis founded the Discovery Ensemble in Boston in 2008; in addition to giving performances, this group held workshops in local schools, including those in underprivileged parts of Boston. In 2014, he garnered two important posts: assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic (where he remained until 2016) and music director of the Jacksonville Symphony. Lewis has continued to make appearances as a guest conductor, and some of those have been in his native country and elsewhere in Europe. In Jacksonville, he conducted complete cycles of the symphonies of Sibelius and Mahler. Lewis made his recording debut in 2021 with the Minnesota Opera, leading a live recording of Kevin Puts' Silent Night.
