Artist Biography
Eric Andersen rose out of the Greenwich Village folk boom of the early '60s, recording a series of albums for the Vanguard label before finding mainstream success amid the singer/songwriter movement with his 1972 standout Blue River. A poetic troubadour with a wandering nature, he later based himself in Europe and formed the acclaimed folk-rock trio Danko Fjeld Andersen in the '90s. Andersen remained prolific into the 21st century, writing short fiction and poetry, releasing solo albums like 2003's Beat Avenue and 2004's The Street Was Always There, and contributing to cultural events celebrating writers like William S. Burroughs, Albert Camus, and Jack Kerouac. The Songpoet, a career-spanning documentary about him, premiered in 2019. A 2022 tribute album to the folk singer featured a range of artists -- among them Bob Dylan and Linda Ronstadt -- covering his music.
