About Vulfpeck
Artist Biography
The R&B band Vulfpeck’s throwback sound recalls the smooth vibes of classic ’60s and ’70s funk and soul.
• Vulfpeck formed at the University of Michigan. The musicians imagined a rhythm section doing a “German version of Motown,” providing instrumental backing to a variety of collaborators.
• The group released a series of short EPs (Mit Peck, Vollmilch, My First Car, and Fugue State) in the leadup to their 2015 debut album, Thrill of the Arts. The LP went Top 20 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
• They gamed the streaming system in 2014 with their cheeky (and since-deleted) Sleepify album, consisting of 10 tracks of silence. They encouraged fans to stream the album overnight and used the $20,000 they made from the experiment to finance a free concert tour.
• In 2019, despite having neither a manager nor a record label, Vulfpeck headlined a sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden.
