About Amos Lee
Artist Biography
Amos Lee began taking music seriously after hearing a John Prine compilation, which served as his gateway to the songs of Joni Mitchell, Bill Withers, and Otis Redding.
∙ Shortly after quitting his job as a school teacher to pursue music, Lee opened for Mose Allison and B.B. King.
∙ Norah Jones asked Lee to open her 2004 tour and contributed to his debut album, after she heard his demo playing at the Blue Note Records office.
∙ His breakthrough single, “Colors,” has been featured in the TV series House, Grey’s Anatomy, and Six Feet Under.
In 2008, he performed at a rally for then-Presidential candidate Barack Obama, alongside such artists as Bruce Springsteen.
∙ His 2011 album, Mission Bell—featuring contributions from Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams, and Iron & Wine—debuted at No. 1 on iTunes’ Top Albums chart.
∙ After releasing five albums on Blue Note, Lee unveiled his first self-produced effort on John Varvatos Records, the famed fashion designer’s eponymous label.
