Combining country, folk, and soft rock with a message of faith, Steven Curtis Chapman has penned dozens of hits while becoming one of the most decorated Christian artists of all time.
∙ After breaking into the industry as a Nashville songwriter, Chapman released his debut LP, First Hand, in 1987 and earned his first Dove Award two years later.
∙ He’s won 60 Dove Awards—more than anyone else in history—and has also received 18 Grammy Award nominations, winning Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album honors five times.
∙ For the Sake of the Call, from 1991, was his first of five straight No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart, which he’s now topped a total of nine times.
∙ With album sales of more than 11 million, Chapman’s catalog includes two Platinum and eight Gold LPs, in addition to his Platinum-certified 2008 single, “Cinderella.”
∙ Ricky Skaggs guested on his 2019 LP, Deeper Roots: Where the Bluegrass Grows, which spent 57 weeks on Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums chart and reached No. 1.
