About Black Bananas
Led by experimental rock veteran Jennifer Herrema, Black Bananas continues a legacy of instinctive, utterly original juxtapositions of rock, pop, and noise that began in the late 1980s with underground legends Royal Trux. By the early 2000s, Herrema had moved on to RTX, which released hard-rocking albums including Transmaniacon (2004) and Western Xterminator (2007) before evolving into Black Bananas. This incarnation of the band dialed up the funk and electronic elements on 2012's Rad Times Xpress IV before distilling their style into the concise, trashy brilliance of 2014's Electric Brick Wall. Neither the late-2010s Royal Trux reunion nor the COVID-19 global pandemic could shake Black Bananas' dedication, and 2026's surreal, free-flowing Bad Bunch was a welcome return of their always-subversive music.
