Artist Biography
Like many of the bands present at the D.C. punk label Dischord’s birth, Youth Brigade’s existence was short-lived but vital. Together from March to December 1981, the band was comprised of former members of Teen Idles (also featuring Minor Threat’s Ian Mackaye) and the Untouchables, and like their more famous contemporaries Minor Threat, opened for landmark East Coast shows by the genre-defining Black Flag. They also shared a name and general political outlook with a much longer-running Los Angeles punk act, but are still remembered for their contributions to the formation of East Coast hardcore and the Washington, D.C., aesthetic.
