About Butcher Brown
Virginia's Butcher Brown proudly reflect the influence of 1970s progressive jazz-funk with a 21st century twist. Their sound joins contemporary jazz, hip-hop, punk, and funk. Their debut All Purpose Music appeared in 2014, followed by Grown Folk in 2015. The Healer and Live at Vagabond both appeared in 2017. Concord signed them for 2020's #KingButch, followed by 2022's Butcher Brown Presents Triple Trey. Written as a hip-hop record, it evolved during the recording process into an eclectic ode to big-band jazz. 2023's Solar Music included guest spots by Keyon Harrold, Braxton Cook, Nappy Nina, Charlie Hunter, and others. They re-entered the studio with a cavalcade of guests to record 2025's Letters from the Atlantic. 2026's A Supreme Blue was in collaboration with trumpeter Nicholas Payton, honoring Miles Davis' and John Coltrane's centennials, by reimagining Kind of Blue and A Love Supreme via modern hip-hop, funk, and electronic grooves.
