About Lael Neale
Singer/songwriter Lael Neale creates magical and rough-edged songs with abandoned technology. Her songs started off reflecting the high-lonesome sound of her time spent growing up in Virginia's countryside, but after discovering the Omnichord (a powerful all-in-one synth instrument with a mystical sound) in 2019, she went in a new creative direction. Neale established a collaborative flow with producer and accompanist Guy Blakeslee, and this creative partnership produced intimate and engaging albums like 2021's Acquainted with Night, stripping the songs down to their barest essence. Neale and Blakeslee intentionally avoided conventional digital recording methods, utilizing cassette four-track for parts of a series of records released with Sub Pop, and moving to cassette eight-track for 2026's As Killers Do, the first release on the duo's independent label Consensual Sound.
