Artist Biography
Formed in Stoke-on-Trent, England, this superior beat group enjoyed a minor hit in 1963 with ‘That’s What I Want’. Penned by the prolific Carter And Lewis team, the song boasted an effective hookline, while the quartet’s understated, acoustic-based interpretation invoked that of contemporaries, the Merseybeats. When a promising follow-up, ‘Always On My Mind’, failed to chart, the Marauders tried to redress the balance with two established stage favourites. Their version of Little Richard’s ‘Lucille’ boasted an impressive guitar solo, while its coupling, ‘Little Egypt’, is arguably the finest British reading of a much-covered classic. The single, sadly, failed to become a hit and the Marauders broke up without realizing their full potential.
