Artist Biography
Brazilian DJ and producer Vintage Culture melds soulful house with pop hooks and the tropical sounds of his country.
• Vintage Culture is Lukas Hespanhol Ruiz. He was enrolled in law school when he started to teach himself to make electronic music on a laptop meant for his studies.
• A long-time fan of Depeche Mode and New Order, he chose the name Vintage Culture as a nod to his love of ‘80s synthpop.
• The Vintage Culture project debuted in 2013 with the techy single “What U Want."
• While he rose to fame in Brazil, he earned his international stripes with a 2016 remix of Sofi Tukker’s “Drinkee,” followed by the original hit “Wild Kidz.”
• His 2019 single “In The Dark” became his biggest US hit to date, topping the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.
• He’s proven incredibly popular as a remixer, working with the likes of Moby, Martin Garrix, Bob Sinclair, Felix Jaehn, and Bob Moses and Zhu.
• In 2020, his track “Só Track Doa”—named for his Só Track Boa Festival event series—raised $100,000 for homeless Brazilians, who were especially vulnerable to COVID-19.
