Fusing Spanish power metal with folk, Latin, and prog, Asturias outfit Avalanch have been on their homeland's rock scene since the early '90s. Originally named Speed Demons, founding members Juan Lozano (vocals) and Alberto Ardines (drums) changed their name to Avalanch in 1993 when they were joined by guitarist Alberto Rionda, bassist Francisco Fidalgo, and singer Victor Garcia. Avalanch released La Llama Eterna in 1997 and 1999 follow-up Llanto de un Héroe before Garcia and Ardines were ousted due to their involvement in another band, Warcry. Despite an ever-changing lineup, Avalanch released four studio albums in the 2000s, including the critically acclaimed El Angel Caido, while in 2011 they recorded their first English-language effort, Malefic Time: Apocalypse. ~ Jon O'Brien
