Teddy Thompson was born into music. While he's recorded and toured with both of his parents -- Richard and Linda Thompson -- his own music marries observant, impassioned lyrics about the joys and challenges of relationships with music that borrows from folk, rhythm & blues, pop, indie rock, and country, delivered with his clear, incisive tenor voice. Early efforts, like 2006's Separate Ways, were understated but powerful contemporary folk projects, and with 2008's A Piece of What You Need, he began experimenting with pop-oriented production that meshed with his intelligent point of view. Classic country is also one of his passions; 2007's Upfront & Down Low was an idiosyncratic but spirited homage to classic country songwriting, and in 2023 he issued two albums of vintage C&W covers, My Love of Country, and Once More: Jenni Muldaur and Teddy Thompson Sing the Great Country Duets.
