Artist Biography
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Seeing Miles Davis’s group in 1987 in Marseille. It was the first time I'd heard a jazz-rock concert, and I was discovering electric music. True to his reputation, Miles played the entire concert with his back to the audience, but what a trip!
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Charles Dutoit, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Debussy: La mer, Jeux, Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, Le martyre de Saint Sébastien (Symphonic Fragments) Clifford Brown, The Complete Paris Sessions, Vol.1 Miles Davis, Porgy and Bess 1. Masterpiece between Jazz and Classical music 2. A masterful and undefinably deep piece by Debussy where each musical ingredient elevates my soul 3. This is how I discovered Clifford Brown, and the sound of his trumpet was forever rooted in me.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My initial encounter with the legendary Yusef Lateef. The intense aura that came out of this man. And the intense emotion I felt when he took me in his arms to thank me for what I had written for him.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would like to write a suite for symphonic orchestra and jazz trio. With a host of guests. Singer, trumpeter, saxophonist, trombonist etc. Also to write a mass for choir, with a string quartet and wind quintet.
