About Yugen Blakrok
Yugen Blakrok is a commanding, defiant, and lyrical rapper from South Africa, active as a performer since the mid-2000s. Work in the studio with producer and DJ Kanif the JhatMaster led to the 2013 release of her debut album, Return of the Astro-Goth. Alongside Vince Staples, she later contributed a verse to "Opps," a track that appeared on the 2018 soundtrack to Black Panther. While Blakrok's sophomore effort, 2019's Anima Mysterium, continued with the intergalactic themes and settings of her debut, 2025's The Illusion of Being was markedly more political and benefitted from Kanif's increased experimentalism.
