American musician and songwriter Peter Matthew Bauer was a founding member of highly esteemed indie rock group the Walkmen, but he was active both before his work with that band and quickly began a solo career after their nebulous dissolution. Bauer brings a sometimes folk-leaning version of the passion he displayed in the Walkmen on his ornately arranged solo albums, exploring different stylistic approaches and inspecting personal emotional states on records like 2014's Liberation! or 2022's Flowers.

Peter Matthew Bauer has also released music as a member of The Recoys and The Walkmen.
