About Oulu Sinfonia
The northernmost orchestra in Finland, the Oulu Sinfonia ("Oulu Symphony Orchestra") has a substantial recording catalog of mostly Finnish works. The group has attracted major conductors and guest conductors from beyond Finland. The roots of the Oulu Sinfonia date back as far as 1856, when a group of musicians tried to establish a permanent orchestra in Oulu. As of 2022, the orchestra's chief conductor is Rumon Gamba. Under conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali, the group backed guitarist Timo Korhonen on a recording of concertos by Kimmo Hakola and Toshio Hosokawa. The orchestra's first recording under Gamba, Overtures from Finland, was issued in 2023, returning with the album Pictures from Finland in 2025.
