About Real Numbers
With roots in vintage punk, Real Numbers have evolved into a group in thrall of the chiming guitars and melancholy textures of bands who served as the softer side of the C-86 movement. Their early records, like a self-titled release from 2010, showed off some scrappiness and left-over punk energy, but they soon opted for a more atmospheric sound after adding keyboards to the lineup. 2021's Brighter Then EP was a tentative step in that direction; 2026's Was It Always this Way leaps in with both feet, sounding like an unearthed relic of the late-'80s U.K. indie pop scene.
