About Bucky O'Hare
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I fell in love with music young. I learned saxophone from local monster Jazz musicians and teachers. I was 10 years old listening to Kind of Blue and Giant Steps. I heard Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker and Ronnie Earl. Then Blues and guitar was it!
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Bill Frisell, Gone, Just Like a Train Buddy Guy, Sweet Tea Ornette Coleman, The Shape of Jazz to Come (2005 Remaster) Ornette is the epitome of melody. His music sings and breathes. Frisell is the most consequential guitarist of the modern age. Gone... combines his experimentation and composition. Buddy Guy is at his feral iconoclastic best on a Mississippi romp.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “My Lady Switchblade (Live 1/25/2024 Galactic Theatre)” Third time's a charm for this song. This live version is the best performance I've gotten on tape. Channeling my hero Tom Waits, this was one of the first tunes I wrote that tells a story of the dark side of life.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I struck out on my own in 2007. It was very scarry at first. Could I really sing? Could I hold center stage? There was not safety net. I have been grateful to have found my niche. Each record, each gig, all continue to be memorable.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? There is no bucket list. I am on the voyage that the giants who I am inspired by were on. I want to continually express myself and be open to the waves of music as they crash over me, grabbing small buckets full to share.
