Artist Biography
Led by songwriter and vocalist Charlie Harrison, Charlie and the Regrets are a band hailing from Houston, Texas who play Lone Star-style country music with a rock & roll kick and lyrics that often deal with the realities of life on the wrong side of the tracks. (In their publicity material, they describe their work as "authentic country music based on real life experiences with a socially conscious overview.") Harrison was born and raised in the Houston area, and began playing bar band gigs while studying at the University of Texas in Austin. While Harrison admits he was no great shakes academically, after graduating he landed a job in corporate finance, living in Arlington, Virginia and working in the Washington, D.C. area. During his downtime from work, Harrison put together a band, Charlie and the Contraband, that developed a loyal following in the Arlington/D.C. area. In 2011, Harrison had earned enough of a reputation that he released a solo album, Overdue. However, despite his success in his day job as well as his night gig, Harrison and his wife grew homesick for Texas, and they headed back to Houston and started over again. In 2014, Harrison launched a new band, Charlie and the Regrets, featuring Willie T. Golden on lap steel guitar and Mark Riddell on bass. In November 2014, the group released an independent EP, New Night. Charlie and the Regrets gigged steadily on the Texas honky tonk circuit and landed a regular Thursday night gig at the Big Top Lounge in Houston. Word spread about them, and as their following grew, Charlie and the Regrets released their first full-length album, Rivers in the Streets, in February 2017. ~ Mark Deming
