Artist Biography
A protégé of Mstislav Rostropovich, Narek Hakhnazaryan is one of the most prominent rising musicians of his generation from Central Asia. The peak of Hakhnazaryan's competition career came in 2011 when he took the gold medal, the highest honor accorded cellists, at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia. From 2014 to 2016, he was a BBC New Generation Young Artist. Hakhnazaryan has performed concertos with major orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (as a sub for an ailing Yo-Yo Ma). As part of the Z.E.N. Trio, he made his recording debut in 2017 on an album of piano trios by Brahms and Dvořák. In 2022, Hakhnazaryan was featured on the album Henze: Nachtstücke und Arien.
