Brooklyn-born DJ and producer iMarkkeyz is behind some of the most viral remix memes of all time—most notably Cardi B’s 2020 “Coronavirus” rant. • The DJ started doing internet remixes in 2013. He scored his first viral hit with 2014’s “Rounds,” a remix of a seven-second Vine video. • When the COVID-19 pandemic began raging, so too did iMarkkeyz’s fame. He took an Instagram clip of Cardi B ranting about the coronavirus and flipped it with a heavy beat. • He posted a video of the “Coronavirus” remix set to clips of Bugs Bunny, Beyoncé, and others dancing. The minute-long clip now has more than 3.3 million video views. • As 2020 progressed, iMarkkeyz continued to find humor amid the dark news cycle. His “Lose Yo Job” remix, created with DJ Suede The Remix God in June, is based on audio of a South Carolina woman being detained by the police. “Lose Yo Job” became an anthem during the summer’s Black Lives Matter protests. • Maya Rudolf and Jim Carrey (playing Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, respectively) danced to “Lose Yo Job” during a Saturday Night Live cold open in November. • Even before the pandemic, iMarkkeyz was always pictured wearing a mask.
