About Mammoth Penguins
Featuring the matter-of-fact vocals and incisive lyrics of Emma Kupa, the Cambridge trio Mammoth Penguins play energetic, bouncy indie rock but aren't afraid to take chances. The trio generates strong, straightforward melodies that add some sweetness to the pithy tone of Kupa's singing, with pop-friendly accents and lean rock & roll energy. After the scrappy, no-frills attack of 2015's Hide and Seek, the group took a more ambitious approach on the synth- and sample-laden 2017 concept album John Doe. On 2019's There's No Fight We Can't Both Win and 2024's Here, Mammoth Penguins moved back to a simpler, more elemental approach, though with a new level of strength, confidence, and drive.
