In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
(Charlie): I remember playing piano recitals as a kid up in the redwoods in Santa Cruz county. Back then, I refused to practice and played by ear (kind of like now), and I remember playing Bohemian Rhapsody to a baffled crowd of parents. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
The Decemberists, The Crane Wife
The Head And The Heart, The Head and the Heart
The National, Trouble Will Find Me
(Charlie): These three albums are foundational to me in how I write music today. The Crane Wife was my introduction to The Decemberists, who are a big influence. That first THaTH album is gorgeous. And The National makes me want to write what I feel. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song.
“Song”
(Charlie): "Song" is a song about longing for something that may not be available any more. It tells a story of loving a band so deeply at one point, but forgetting how their songs even sound, and that feeling of making or receiving a mix tape. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
We had an opportunity to open up for a much bigger band, Mipso, by simply emailing them when they came to our town and asking. We tell newer bands this story and it's inspiring. What's the worst that could happen? They say no? Well, they said yes. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
We would love to play larger, pro venues in our area, like The Independent or The Fillmore. We'd also love to tour through the western US (or further)! Deep down, I (Charlie) want to revive my rock opera... but that's a big project.
