Mumbai-based singer, songwriter and composer Anand Bhaskar strikes a rare balance between Indian independent rock and Bollywood pop, marrying the sensibilities of both worlds. Having cut his teeth in the New Delhi rock scene with bands including Descant and MH 04, Bhaskar launched his own group—the Anand Bhaskar Collective—where he explored a broader sonic palette, from 1990s rock to string arrangements reminiscent of A.R. Rahman with classically driven vocals.
While the band steadily built its audience, Bhaskar’s commercial work saw him become a composer for cult drama series Mirzapur in 2020. Its soundtrack spawned the emotive track “Vaaroon”, featuring singer Romy and lyricist Ginny Diwan. Bhaskar also demonstrated his vocal versatility: His warm, agile voice was used by composer Amit Trivedi on “Shaabaashiyaan” from the 2019 film Mission Mangal, underscoring his dual pop-rock and film credentials.
