Iowa City's Aseethe play slow, crushing doom metal influenced by the repetition and spaciousness of drone music, combining guitars, drums, and atmospheric electronics. The group formed in 2007, initially as a solo project of multi-instrumentalist Brian Barr, who was soon joined by drummer Eric Diercks. In 2011, after issuing a flurry of EPs and split singles, the band released their debut album, Reverent Burden, via their own Floating Cave imprint. More EPs and singles followed, with the group's second full-length, Hopes of Failure, dropping in 2017 via Thrill Jockey. ~ Paul Simpson
