About Avery May
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
I grew up on music my mum played to me: largely Amy Winehouse, ABBA, Neil Diamond, Paul Simon, and The Clash. It's all been very formative in my development as a musician, and hopefully some of that influence shines through.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Lorde, Melodrama
Magdalena Bay, Imaginal Disk
Phoebe Bridgers, Punisher
'Melodrama' is a stupendous examination of being 19 and everything that comes with it. 'Punisher' is all-round gorgeous. 'Imaginal Disk' is near-perfect, with unique and fantastic performances. The production on all three is aspirational.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song.
“Second to None”
This is my only song (for now!) but it's my debut single, making it special in itself! It's an examination of ambition, apathy and attitudes towards achievement in this day and age. It's a snapshot of a very specific moment in time for me.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
During the album cover shoot, Riley mangling his fingers with a drone. He was okay. Don't worry.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
ALBUM! GRAMMY! (in truth, just continuing to write and create and having a great time with my music)
