For any gaming fans wondering why the heroes get all the fame and glory, Big Bad Bosses is the comedy parody supergroup to satisfy the villain sympathy. The self-described video game villain boy band released their debut album, Power Overwhelming (TOVG Records), in December 2015, preceded by big-boasting single "I'm the Boss." The famous bosses who took the time away from their villainous day jobs are Sephy (Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, performed by Nate Sharp), Big Bow (Bowser from the Mario universe, performed by Jirard Khalil), Ronik (Dr. Robotnik from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, performed by Alex Faciane), and G-Ca$h (Ganondorf from Zelda, performed by Satchel Drakes). The group is influenced by the style of late '90s boy bands like *Nsync and Backstreet Boys, as well as early-aughts hip-hop akin to the No Limit and Bad Boy sound. While the voices are provided by prominent YouTube video game personalities, the music and lyrics were written by Jake Kaufman (Double Dragon Neon, Contra 4, Shovel Knight) and produced by Jacque Khalil. Also appearing on the debut are Grant Kirkhope (Goldeneye 64, Banjo-Kazooie), who drops a hard rap verse on the Run-DMC-esque "Bears and Birds," and online video game composer Dale North. A slew of YouTubers from the online video game community also contributed to the effort. Comedic references and genre spoofing abound, producing a sly kind of fun that Cloud Strife, Mario, Sonic, and Link might be too busy to provide. ~ Neil Z. Yeung
