Artist Biography
2014 saw the birth of Bluso, a Beijing-based chill rap group formed of three young men who harboured a shared love for jazz and lyrical hip-hop—Yinu Boy, Baddie Rose and Don Mescal. Well-acquainted with jazz music from the early days of his childhood, frontman Yinu Boy boasts a solid musical foundation, which coupled with his exceptional organisational skills pertaining to all aspects of the creative process, explains how he is not just the lead rapper of the group, but also the main brain behind its workings. A skilled designer, Baddie Rose personally designs the group’s album art and promotion material, hand-painting all the graphics himself. Don Mescal carries his weight in sampling, and it is his skilful production and arrangement that gives Bluso its uniquely three-dimensional sound. The group has experimented significantly with their sound over the years to improve their music production quality—while their first underground album Rap Me Blue took the form of an interesting integration of jazz, rap, and Old School, the EP that followed, Three Musketeers in the Club, was heavily influenced by the dynamic New School style. Eager to expound upon their new shift in sound, the hip-hop crew devoted their efforts to bringing together their first full-length, Back Home Before Daybreak, to serve as an emotional, thorough deconstruction and examination of urban life.
