Artist Biography
Bobby Helms was a country singer best known for the perennial holiday hit “Jingle Bell Rock.”
∙ Country music pioneer Ernest Tubb saw Helms performing on the TV show Hayloft Frolic in 1955 and was so impressed that he helped the singer get signed to Decca Records.
∙ In 1957, Helms’ first No. 1 Country hit, “Fraulein,” remained on the Billboard chart for 52 weeks, a feat that has only happened six times.
∙ After he scored a second Country chart-topper in 1957 with “My Special Angel”—also a No. 7 hit on the Hot 100 and No. 8 on the R&B charts—Billboard named him Male Vocalist Of The Year.
∙ His biggest hit, “Jingle Bell Rock,” made the Billboard Hot 100 in 1958, 1996, 2016, 2019, and 2020.
∙ In the late ’90s, he was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame.
