Violinist Bojan Čičić is equally virtuosic in his performances of Baroque repertoire and music from the Romantic period. His playing has been lauded for its pairing of passion and fine technique, combined with an unusual sensitivity for period-appropriate performance methodology. Born in Zagreb, Croatia, in 1979, Čičić studied in Paris and London in the 2000s and began his recording career in 2009 playing J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos. Over the years, he has become known for tackling repertoire by a broad range of composers, including Bach and Mendelssohn, and less familiar names like Giuseppe Tartini and Pietro Antonio Locatelli. Čičić has led the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Concerto Copenhagen, and others, and has been a music director for the Slovenian Philharmonic and the Washington Bach Consort. He is probably best known for the Illyria Consort, which he founded to perform the music of lesser-known composers of the Baroque and Classical eras. The Consort’s first recording, a 2017 album featuring the works of Giovanni Stefano Carbonelli, earned critical praise for the lyricism and organic quality of the performances. Čičić was appointed Professor of Baroque Violin at London’s Royal College of Music in 2016.
