In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I played trumpet up through music conservatory, but never really found my desired connection with music until I heard Orbital in the 90s. That layered, constructed rhythm clicked in my head, and I started pursuing any electronic music I could find.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Depeche Mode, Ultra (Deluxe) Duran Duran, Duran Duran (The Wedding Album) Orbital, Orbital 2 So many… I’ll say Orbital’s brown album, Ultra by Depeche Mode, and I’ll throw in Duran Duran’s wedding album. At different times in my life those albums changed the trajectory of my music interests, such that they became part of my self-image.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Unborn (feat. Lauren Cheatham)” Unborn is a very personal song, an example of taking the melancholy in my life and turning it into something extremely beautiful. It’s a wonderful fusion of genres, samples, traditional instrumentation, and amazing vocals.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I was fortunate enough to open for Stabbing Westward at House of Blues in Chicago with my long-time friends and collaborators in I:Scintilla. It was a great show and definitely the best green room I’ve ever had.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I plan to release another full-length album called Three, for a trilogy of 1 2 3, and much of that is already completed. It’s often been said that “Glide” would be perfect for a national TV automobile ad, so it would be cool to see that placement.
