About Boy M.I.C
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
Growing up in Botswana, my uncle used to DJ in our backyard on old speakers that shook the dust off the ground. I’d be his only crowd, standing there while he tested mixes, and he’d ask me, “How’s that sound?” That was my invitation into music.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Brenda Fassie, Memeza
Hip Hop Pantsula, O Mang Reloaded
Kelvin Momo, Ivy League
These records feel like different chapters of who I am. Brenda takes me back home, HHP showed me the power of hearing Setswana in hip-hop, and Ivy League captures the Amapiano sound that continues to inspire my music, energy and creativity today
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song.
“Oska Lela Thata Laitaka”
I wrote “Oska Lela Thata Laitaka” from the pain of losing my dad. It speaks to the things grief can do to you, like crying, praying, losing focus and trying to drink the pain away. The song reminds anyone carrying loss that they’re not alone.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
My most memorable moment has been seeing my music connect with people beyond anything I imagined. “Le Lesilo” reached over a million views on social media, and now “Oska Lela Thata Laitaka” has inspired beautiful tributes to loved ones lost.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
I want to make an Amapiano album that can stand with the best to come out of Southern Africa. I’m chasing that one song that crosses borders, becomes a global anthem and makes the world look south. I believe it’s coming.
