Punjabi singer-songwriter Cheema Y took the somewhat circuitous, if increasingly common, route of moving from India to Canada for further studies before deciding to launch a music career in 2020. Going by the reception to his output so far—the album ANYWAY (2023), EPs Dripster (2023) and Cloud 9 (2024) and a series of singles, most of them with producer Gur Sidhu—it seems he made the right call. With lyrics that connect the youth set to Sidhu’s head-bopping hip-hop beats, Cheema Y’s popularity grows with each new release.
