Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. In High School I moved to a small town in Ohio and started writing music, alone with a 4-track recorder. Somehow these songs brought together a group of people and helped to grow a tight knit music community that was already developing.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Death Cab for Cutie, Transatlanticism Modest Mouse, This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About Say Hi, Impeccable Blahs If I think back to which three albums had the most direct influence on how I play music, it would probably be these. Transatlanticism for the songwriting, Impeccable Blahs for its simplicity, and This is a Long Drive for its chaos and imperfections.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Strangely New” I remember a moment when I was playing this song live. It was during the ending, where the music builds and I was playing guitar at the time. I distinctly remember a sudden feeling of getting lost in the emotion of the song. I never forgot it.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? In 2008 we did a small tour. The place we booked in Philly ended up being way too small, so we decided to play on the streets instead. It ended up being one of the best moments on the tour and later inspired the song "The Woman Without Grace".
